TO DRY-DOCK 

APRIL 2003:  TEXAS will not got to dry dock in December 2004.  The San Jacinto Complex (The TPWD administrative unit over the San Jacinto Battleground and TEXAS) reports the Proposition 8 bonds to pay for the dry dock will not be issued due to the state budget shortfall.  At this time no indication when the bonds will be issued or a likely dry dock date..

7 NOVEMBER 2001, Proposition 8, a bond issue, passed which specifically allocates $12.5 million for dry-dock and berth improvements.  The fiscal year in which the money will be available was not specific but will be in FY 2002 or 2003 or 2004.

Expected dry dock date - December 2004 (suspended as of Apr 2003)

Location - not yet determined

Dry dock time - 6 months to one year

Dry dock work:

- - Some hull plate metal replacement.

- - Wood deck  replaced and repainted

Berth work

- - Dredging of the slip where the ship is moored

- - Shoreline bulkhead stabilized

- - Power supply source revamped

Preparation for dry dock

- - May 2002:  Two new compressed air systems (electric and diesel) have been installed.  The compressed air systems will operate pumps for discharging water that is likely to leak into the ship during the dry-dock movement.
